Monsoon rain affects camp life
Beldangi, July 30: The incessant rain due to the monsoon wind over the Bay of Bengal and Himalayas for the last two weeks has affected the lives of exiled Bhutanese in eastern camps.
In Goldhap camp, the swollen Deuniya River entered the camp displacing at least 23 families. Losses due to the flood have not been assessed.
The displaced families from sector C have temporarily taking shelter at the Blooming Lotus English School and other relatives. If the monsoon continued to pour for some more days, people say more families would be displaced.
The displaced people said none of the agency staffs have visited or contacted them for support or for arrangement of alternate shelters.
Due to the overflow of river, the vehicles transporting ration items have reached the camp and the ambulance service has also been disrupted.
Similarly, the floods have partially affected the lives in Beldangi I and Timai camps. Bhutan News Service/Yadap Neupane
