Dr Singh set to visit Bhutan
Delhi, May 09: After the first sitting of the elected parliament began in Thimphu, Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is scheduled to visit Bhutan.
Singh will leave Delhi for Thimphu next week.
During his visit, the government is set to announce financial assistance of IRs 4,587 crores for 10th five year plan. The plan period will being this July – delayed by a year due to democratization process.
The union cabinet has already approved the assistance. In addition to this assistance, India will offer IRs 287 crores as gift to this small Himalayan kingdom.
Druk National Congress expressed hope that Singh’s visit will help turn Bhutan really democratic including addressing the grievance of those excluded in the democratization process. Bhutan News Service
