US top official talks of exiled Bhutanese
Washington, March 26: US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said she would update the latest developments on issue of exiled Bhutanese to the American law makers.
On March 21, she told a panel of the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee that US they are covered, I believe, under US's general refugee policy.
Earlier a law maker had also raised the plight of the exiled Bhutanese in Nepal.
Rice in response said, they are covered, I believe, under our general refugee policy. But she promised to provide an update on the situation.
"I recognize the problem of the Bhutanese not being able to go back and obviously not wanting to stay in a refugee camp, but I will get an update for you (the member who asked the question) on where we are on that issue," Rice said. Bhutan News Service
