Shercol restricts students to talk politics
Samdrup Jongkhar, October 08: With the growth of open political debates alongside the democratization process, the sewing mouths of the young people to terminate their interest in national politics continue to exist in the country.
When the college students in Sherubtse College began discussion over the changing politics and democratization process in the country, the college administration has issued strict order to the students not to do so.
While the national laws demand graduates to run in the elections, the government-run college restricts the graduating students from talking politics.
Two of the students who were trying to activate their role in politics have been terminated from the college recently. This has discouraged the young people from entering politics subsequently squeezing the presence of old people in the government and to-be-democratic parliaments.
In the same time Shercol students made efforts to see their roles in national politics, possibly forming the student or youth wing of the national parties, the election commission issued an order that parties are not allowed to form sister organizations.
Shercol is one of the prime centers of political awareness. The 1990 agitation in several fronts was lead by the students of this college. Thus, the government maintains strict control over the activities of the college even after the process of democratization. Bhutan News Service
