Regime fires two Lhotsampas for attending party meet
Phuentsholing, October 09: The Chukha district administration has fired two Lhotsampa tshogpas (village representatives) of Phuentsholing on charges of attending and participating a meeting organized by People’s Democratic Party in the town on September 12.
Buddiman Rai and Partiman Rai have been relieved from their posts after Druk Phuensum Tshogpa complained to the Anti-Corruption Commission, Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) and district administration about their participation in the political meeting.
They were alleged to have received Nu 500 each from the party which the party said was travel allowance. Tshogpa of Lokchina gewog Phuntsho had attended the meeting. However, no action has been clamped on him.
The district administration has not shown the evidence that they received the sum from the party.
In democracies, local governments are also elected from among the various political parties. This is not the case in Bhutan where the people representatives in local government are not allowed to join the politics. Principally, the government has not distinguished between the bureaucracy and the local government. Bhutan News Service
