IOM opens Kathmandu office, MoU signed with Nepal
Kathmandu, September 04: International Organization of Migration (IOM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nepal that opened way for resettlement of exiled Bhutanese to the US.
The Nepalese government has also given authority to the IOM to open an office in Kathmandu.
According to a press statement posted on its official site on Tuesday, the agreement will also allow IOM to begin to process for resettlement in the USA some thousands of exiled Bhutanese.
In May 2this year the US government had selected IOM to act as its Overseas Processing Entity (OPE) for the resettling some 60,000 exiled Bhutanese to the US.
IOM will help the US government select case files of exiled Bhutanese for resettlement, provide medical screening and cultural orientation, and organize their complex logistics of moving from camps in Jhapa and Morang. Bhutan News Service
