New specie of fish discovered in the country
Thimphu, September 04: Fishery Research Section, under Department of Livestock, in its latest report has said it discovered new specie of fish in the country that was never previously reported in the country.
A team from Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Park, Nature Conservation Division and Department of Forest was set out to investigate the possibility of existence of fish in Lingshi. The new specie of fish ‘Stolickzkae triplophysa-loach’ was found in Tshoka Tsho on September 23 last year.
Live samples of the fish was collected for identification and later Department of Livestock (DoL), Thimphu and National Cold Water Fishery Centre (NCWFC), Haa were given confirmation of the discovery of the new fish. The Zoological survey of India in Kolkata also confirmed the report.
With this new one, Bhutan now has 49 fish species.
The new fish is black saddle-shaped bands on the back, spotted caudal and dorsal fins, and spotted dorsal surface of outer rays of paired fins and anterior rays. The fish is about 100 mm in length. Bhutan News Service
