Sonam Yangden is first Bhutan Star (Entertainment)
Thimphu, January 06: Sonam Yangden has been declared as the first Bhutan Star on New Year eve, with public votes dominating the judgment by judges in the selection procedures. She topped the five contestants in final round.
Sonam, who received 44,108 votes, said after victory that her interest is to be a playback singer.
She received a Maruti Swift car sponsored by Ugen Tshechup of Zimdra Automobiles and signed a music contract worth Nu 100,000 with Jigdrel Trophel.
Karma Phuntsho, another 19-year-old from Trashigang, with 28,420 votes was declared the first runner- up and given a cash prize of Nu 150,000 while Tshering Namgay, a 20-year-old farmer from Wangdue, was the second runner-up with 23,555 votes and received cash prize of Nu 50,000. Bhutan News Service
