Second date for the NC election
Thimphu, November 03: The Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) has said National Council election in those Dzongkhags that have one or no candidates will be held on January 29 next year.
The districts having two or more candidates will go voting on December 26.
The commissioned has notified that last date for filing nominations in the dzongkhags for second phase elections is January 1.
Stating that the voters should have choice in candidates, the commission said such a choice can be best made only if there are at least two candidates.
Chief election commissioner, Dasho Kunzang Wangdi said, “But if the dzongkhags still do not have enough candidates by January 29, the election date will be postponed for these dzongkhags until further notice.”
The commission statement further said, “With a single candidate, victory for the candidate is a foregone conclusion and most of the voters would feel that there is no fair opportunity provided to them by the system.” Bhutan News Service
