PM, opposition leaders praise king (Politics)
Thimphu, May 10: Prime Minister Jigmi Thinley and opposition leader in the National Assembly Tshering Tobgey consume most of their time in first address to parliament on Friday to praise the role King Jigme Singye played in transforming Bhutan.
Thinley, in his opening address to the parliament said the successful transformation of the absolute monarchy to democracy and decentralization process in Bhutan has been exemplary to world due to skillful leadership of King Jigme Singye Wangchuk.
Stating that nowhere in world has been experienced the peaceful transformation to democracy, Thinely pledged to serve the people with dedication.
He further said success of the democracy rests on capability of his party to address the sentiments and will of the people promised during the campaigns.
Opposition leader Tobgey also expressed his commitment to join hands with ruling party in fulfilling need and aspiration of the people and their grievances.
The parliament has opened discussion on draft constitution and will be continued on Monday as well. Bhutan News Service
