PDP distributes money in Phuentsholing
Phuentsholing, September 26: The two leading parties in the country have begun their fights as the country heads towards the first democratic elections.
The leaders of the Druk Phuensum Tshogpa, led by Jigme Thinley, in Phuentsholing have appealed the dungkhag court claiming that rival party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP), led by king’s uncle Sangey Ngedup, distributed money to the people who attended their meetings sometime ago, government mouth-piece Kuensel said.
The party has also made charges against a number of gewog Tshokpa heads in Chukha dzongkhag for their participation in PDP campaigns.
A former gup under the dungkhag had asked the people gathered at a meeting called by dungkhag administration, to attend a gathering at the local Lakhi hotel on September 12.
The PDP leaders during the meeting distributed Nu 500 to each attendees and buffet lunch in its effort to attract more votes during the elections. But PDP leaders said the money was travel allowance paid to party supporters. Bhutan News Service
