Paro airport expansion proposed (Nation)
Thimphu, June 25: Paro airport, the only international airport in the country, has been proposed for expansion with separate arrival and departure terminal buildings, a broadened runway, modern landing lights, bigger maintenance area, and separate access roads.
The new plan would work to its capacity until 2030. The current capacity is reaching its saturation due to increasing number of visitors and flights.
The proposal has been brought up after the government announced to increase the annual visitor numbers to 100,000 by next five years.
The airport will be expanded in three phase, expected to be complete by 10 years.
Bhutan also plans another international airport in Gelephu, in Sarpang dzongkhag. Bhutan News Service
