New IDs contain same date of birth

Sanischare, January 16: Several identity cards issued by government of Nepal and UNHCR to exiled Bhutanese in Sanischare camp have errors in printing date of birth.

"We have received many cases where different cards have January 1 as date of birth instead of actual date registered during last year's census", said camp secretary Menuka Nepal.

"My date of birth is November 27 but in my card it is printed January 1," she added.

Garja Man Gurung of sector A/4 Hut No 38 also repeated the same story to Bhutan News Service that instead of what is mentioned in his card, his date of birth should be December 10. Gurung's family was the first to receive cards from UNHCR officials.

Camp secretary said UNHCR has admitted the mistake in printing the cards but has not made any decision for replacement or correction.
