New airport proposed in Trashingang
Thimphu, October 10: Trashigang dzongkhag has proposed for a new domestic airport and has even identified a site for it between Bartsham gewog and Ramjar gewog (in Trashiyangtse dzongkhag).
According to a district engineer, necessary information has been collected and a preliminary report has been prepared for the feasibility study from the ‘top sheet’ as well as from site visits.
The site, which is 2,600 m above sea level, has the potential length that can be leveled to more than 2.5 km and up to the width of 250 m.
The district authority has submitted the technical details to the Department of Civil Aviation in Paro.
According to Trashigang dzongda Minjur Dorji, who initiated the proposal, the site was used as a helipad in the early 60s, which was now used as a playground by the children in the locality. Bhutan News Service
