Informal parties prepare for merger under new banner

Thimphu, July 09: While the tussle among the newly formed parties blaming each other for forcing people to join their party is continuing, founders of the two parties have bestowed their power to ministers willing to join politics to decide the parties’ future.

All People’s Party and Bhutan People’s United Party, much criticised for imitating name from Bhutan People’s Party in exile, have handed over their authority to the government ministers to work for united party under a new name.

The two party leaders and the ministers plan to meet this week in Thimphu to decide the merger and announce a new name before registering at the election commission.

Both these parties are talked to have received support from the royal advisors and government ministers. Two serving ministers Jigmi Thinley and Sangey Ngedup would come to a consensus for merger of these informal parties. However, both working in the same party would be awesome.

BPUP has already expanded its network in most districts while APP is recently formed. However, as more and more parties announced in the country, finding full time party cadres had been difficult.
