Indian ruling alliance hints support for democracy struggle
New Delhi, July 04: Leaders of the leading coalition United Progressive Alliance (UPA) in India have assured Indian assistance for finding solution of the exiled Bhutanese citizens, who were evicted out of the country in early 1990s.
During the meeting with the Bhutanese leaders in exile on Tuesday, general secretary and chief spokesperson of the ruling Nationalist Congress Party Prof Devi Prasad Tripathi told the Bhutanese leader on Tuesday that the Indian government would take initiative to solve the protracted crisis after the presidential elections.
He said they would form a alliance with the opposition parties for a unified approach to government for finding solution of the problem.
During the half an hour discussion, the Bhutanese leaders urged Tripathi for formation of parliamentarian alliance to put pressure on the government in the same manner the US and other governments are taking up the issues through parliamentarian committees.
The Bhutanese delegation has been approaching the foreign minister Pranav Mukharjee who earlier had said Indian government can hardly take any initiative to find solution of the crisis.
However, in Kolkata, after the Long March by the exiled Bhutanese, Mukharjee had said the problems need solution through tripatriate agreement. Bhutan News Service
