India hails upper house elections
New Delhi, January 02: India has hailed the conduct of first-ever upper house elections in Bhutan and expressed readiness to support its transition to a democratic constitutional monarchy on Tuesday.
"This is indeed a great moment in Bhutan's history and an important step in Bhutan's transition to a new system of governance," a statement issued by External Affairs Ministry said.
The statement further said, "India is committed to extending full support in the establishment of institutions required for the consolidation of democratic constitutional monarchy in Bhutan."
