Experts suggest seismological network for Bhutan
Thimphu, June 03: Seismological experts from Afghanistan, Bhutan, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Iran, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the United States, at a workshop on seismic data sharing in the region, have suggested Bhutan establishing a seismic network to help understand and minimize earthquake risks.
The regional discussion workshop was organized amidst increasing number of earthquake hazards in neighboring countries killing million of people. Bhutan is zero in seismic education.
The scientists also raise concerns if the house construction in Bhutan are based on technology that can withstand the earthquakes.
According to Director General of the Department of Geology and Mines Dorji Wangda government had carried out trial seismic stations in five places in the country in the past and has plans to establish a seismic network. Bhutan News Service
