Exile, Sikkim Journalists reached agreement
Gantok, June 12: Bhutan Press Union (BPU) and Press Club of Sikkim (PSC) have signed four-point understanding to work for welfare of exiled Bhutanese and their repatriation process on June 7, 2006.
The understanding between BPU and PSC was made in an interaction program organized at the PSC office in Namnang, Gangtok the capital city of Sikkim.
In an interaction BPU was represented by President C N Timsina, Press Secretary Khem Kafley and Advisor Hari Khanal while President C D Rai, General Secretary Bhim Rawat, Finance Secretary Parasmoni Dangal had represented PSC.
According to Advisor of BPU Hari Khanal, PCS extended its solidarity to BPU in its every effort towards repatriation with dignity and honor, for the establishment of democracy and press freedom in Bhutan. PSC agreed with BPU's readiness to exchange information and advocacy material and delegates in programs held by Sikkim journalists.
The journalists/publications in Sikkim would provide wider and frequent coverage of the issue of exiled Bhutanese in daily, weekly, periodical newspapers and magazines, the BPU shall share information on the refugee issues with PCS of Sikkim.
PCS has decided to send a team of journalists to camps to undertake field study and bring into light the silent suffering of the Bhutanese and their right to return.
PCS also expressed all possible support to garner solidarity from the journalists in other states-particularly West Bengal, North East Region and New Delhi. Bhutan News Service
