EC gives more direction on party formation
Thimphu, March 19: Stating that the proposed political parties may start collecting making their party funds, the Election Commission has announced the ceiling on registration fees, membership fee, and voluntary contribution.
Party registration fee for a person is Nu 3,000 while annual membership fee has been fixed at Rs 5,000. A person can contribute at the maximum of Nu 1 million to the party.
Democratically, the party itself determines the membership fee for a person wishing to take membership of that party.
Speaking in a press conference Mondy morning the chief election commissioner Dasho Kunzang Wangdi said that the ceilings were fixed in order to ensure that people enter the parties of their choice.
He said that all parties registered by July would be considered as legitimate one and asked people to go ahead with the process of forming the parties.
A notice by the commission said any registered voter willing to form a party must begin the process at the earliest. Bhutan News Service
