Delhi municipal objects naming a road after Bhutan royals
New Delhi, May 17: New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is up against a 'Bhutanese' roadblock in the Capital's diplomatic enclave, Indian media reported.
The issue concerns renaming the road in front of the Bhutan embassy to commemorate 100 years of the Wangchuk dynasty, a request from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India.
But the local authorities clarified the road cannot be renamed since it is named after Chandragupta, which resulted an idea-blockade that has led NDMC into a stretch-hunting trip.
MEA had requested to name the 210m-road as 'Wangchuk Centenary Marg'.
The road not only connects Bhutan embassy but also the embassies of Singapore and Nigeria embassies. NDMC officials other embassies might object to it, if it is named after Bhutanese royal dynasty.
The NDMC has written back to the ministry asking it to 'consider guidelines before making such requests'. Bhutan News Service
