Border with India to be sealed
Phuentsholing, March 19: The border with India will be sealed for 36 hours before the day of general elections scheduled for March 24.
The border along Assam will be sealed from 6 pm on March 23 to 6 am on March 25, a statement by ministry of home and cultural affairs reads, adding that the measure was taken to sure security during the polls.
All travelers required to transit through Assam must reach their respective destinations in Bhutan before 6 pm on March 23, the ministry said.
Similarly, border with West Bengal border will be sealed from 8 pm on March 22 till 6 am on March 25.
The government also cautioned people to avoid traveling through Assam in view of terrorist activities in the northeastern Indian states.
India has deployed additional police forces along border areas to check infiltration of rebel groups to foil the elections. Bhutan News Service
