Kathmandu, January 02: Bhutanese Movement Steering Committee (BMSC) has strongly demanded the UNHCR and the government of Nepal to respond immediately to the superfluous statement of Prime Minister Khandu Wangchuk in National Assembly.

Speaking in a press meet at Sanchar Samuha on Tuesday, Thinley Penjore, the Spokesperson of BMSC said that the Bhutanese people struggling for human rights and democracy in Bhutan, witnessed beginning of 86th National Assembly with positive outcome in view of first ever tabling of refugee problem in it’s agenda.

Penjore also said that Bhutan’s blunt allegation, “Allowing the highly politicized camp people into Bhutan would mean importing ready-made political parties and terrorists to duplicate the violence, terror, and instability the Maoists have unleashed in Nepal” is a serious, unfounded and baseless allegation being labeled against the people victimized by the regime and living in the UNHCR-sponsored camps in Nepal.

“Such an abhorrent statement from a responsible figure is obvious given Bhutan regimes’ own characteristics of terrorism being unleashed on its own people giving an unending silent suffering” he said, adding- “The particular statement also indirectly alleges ‘core group’ headed by the US government of creating safe haven for the so called Maoists infiltrated camps in Nepal by helping and empowering them through resettlement strategy to prepare for aggressive movement in the coming future.”

BMSC also sought deep attention of Nepalese government to facilitate the process of resolving Bhutanese issue through tripartite process involving India’s good office. It has also appealed international communities to bestow justice on the process by persuading good office of India for its involvement without any further delay.

BMSC has warned concerned authorities to use diplomatic leverage on Bhutan in order to safeguard the Kingdom from political unrest and from any untoward incidents. Bhutan News Service/T.P.Mishra
