BBS radio, Layap’s only connection with the country
November 27, 2009: For the Layaps, BBS radio is their only connection with the rest of Bhutan. And this connection is often broken when there’s a disturbance in the signal.
Laya is located 4,000 metres above the sea level.
Laya Geog is about three days walk from proper Gasa. Lack of communication facilities cuts off the people of Laya from the rest of the country.
BBS radio is their only connection with the rest of Bhutan. The Layaps keep themselves abreast with the happenings in and around the country through the BBS radio. However the signal of the BBS radio is often disturbed.
Most of the layaps said it is only through BBS radio that they can keep up with the happening within the country.
The Layaps have access to a satellite phone run on solar energy. But because of climatic conditions it can hardly be used.
