Parties revive membership drive, few turn-up

Phuentsholing, September 29:  Four months in the government, the Druk Phuensum Tshogpa has revived its drive for renewal of party membership, but it turned out to be failing move since less than 150 have become members of the party in two-month’s time.

Against its last year’s claimed figure of 12,000 members, only 53 have renewed while other 193 joined the party. Indicates are the failure of the ruling party to meet its commitments given during the campaign.

Similar is the situation with opposition party which started renewing its membership early their year, receiving little more than 100 by the end, not single new entry.

Failure of the leaders to re-visit their constituencies after the election, disappearance of those who lost in polls and concentration of government activities in capital city are some of the reasons why people turned their dead ear to party calls.

Critics even come up to say if the people were compelled to take membership of the party before the first elections and people have begun to realize their freedom of choice as the politics get open.

Both the parties expect to get the same or more numbers by the end of campaign, less likely to be achieved.
