Three-fourth voters registered, southerners barred

Thimphu, November 29: According to Election Commission about 75 percent of the 400,000 eligible voters have registered to vote in the 2008 elections. However, 48 percent voters registered for voting are found filling registration forms incorrectly leaving some essential details.

Election officials said that voters could continue to register until one month before the day of poll.

On November 28, the highest registration of voters was from Trashigang and Mongar while Gasa and Haa registered the lowest.
The, said that “Those who have not registered should register and prove themselves to be responsible citizens”, said Chief election Commissioner, Dasho Kunzang Wangdi.

When Bhutan is heading towards democratization it is unbelievable that majority of Nepali-speaking citizens in southern district are barred from registration for voting in so-called election in 2008. Bhutan News Service
