Published on Feb 24 2007 // Main News

Sanischare, February 24: The tensed situation at Sanischare camp has gradually returned to normalcy following joint talks between Morang Chief District Officer (CDO), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Sanischare camp secretary, forestry officials and the UNHCR representatives on Saturday.

According to sources at the talk team, they have reached an agreement of putting-off curfew and clearing the blocked roads. Meanwhile, they reached a common agreement to pay compensation to the bereaved family of Gopal Khadka, who was killed during the Thursday scuffle between locals and exiled Bhutanese.

The joint meeting also decided to extend financial assistance for medical treatment to those hurt in the scuffle.

The compensation to bereaved family and financial assistance for those hurt, would be decided after a probe committee summits report within nine days.

Govinda Thapa, founder president of Addiction Recovery Center (ARC) – Damak informed BNS that the situation hasn’t completely returned to normalcy.

“Both locals and camp people are still keeping a sense of attacking one another when they encounter.” Thapa said, adding- “We should have a feeling of brotherhood as both of us are Nepali speakers.”

It is learnt that the joint meet couldn’t reached a common consensus on the demand of locals to swift Sanischare camp. Bhutan News Service
