Pranab Mukerjee visits Bhutan to sign new hydropower project
Kolkata, July 26: Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukerjee is paying a three-day visit to Bhutan from tomorrow. During his visit, Bhutan and India will sign an agreement on a new hydropower project, Punatsangcchu-I having 1095 megawatt power.
This was stated by ministry spokesperson in a press release issued on Wednesday. Indian newspapers quoted the spokesperson as saying Bhutan and India will also discuss border issues as Bhutan shares a 700 km border with India.
Last year, India signed an agreement with Bhutan stating that India will buy 5,000 megawatt of electricity by 2020.
India has already invested over one billion US dollars in three hydroelectric plants in Bhutan. Bhutan News Service
