Joint mission from agencies visits camp
Beldangi-I, June 10: A joint assessment mission comprising officers of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), World Food Program and AMDA-Nepal visited here today.
The team mainly discussed on the issues of malnutrition in camps. "We are really proud that the malnutrition rate is lower in camps as compared to local communities", said Dr. Talmur Hussian of UNHCR.
Dr. Bhampa Rai, a senior Bhutanese surgeon also attended the discussion, where Harka Bahadur Rai from Refugee Coordination Unit (RCU) presented a seven point demand paper asking agencies to increase assistances to exiled Bhutanese.
The other demands included possible support to those registered at RCU in Chandragadi but staying outside camps, incentives to members of camp management committee, allowances to officers of RCU, salary raise of salary holders working in camps, protection of children and vulnerable families, and possible support to local people at camps' proximity.
The mission also visited hospitals and basic health units in camp. Bhutan News Service/Arjun Pradhan
