Elections postponed by two months
Thimphu, July 02: Postponing two months than earlier schedule, the Election Commission has announced that National Council election would be held in December this year. Earlier, elections were scheduled for October.
According to the announcement made by the commission this morning, the primary round of elections for the National Assembly would be held in February and the final rounds a month later.
The dates have been announced as per the royal kasho issued by the king on June 30.
The commission, on fulfilling the criteria, has started registering the political parties interested to take part in the elections from Sunday. However, non has registered by now.
Commission said it would organize briefing session for the political party leaders on electoral rules and regulations and a series of workshops throughout the country as part of voters’ education.
The commission has publicized a handbook for the election candidates for parliament and local government. Bhutan News Service
