Conversion into young politicians

Thimphu, July 18: Following a two-day workshop by department of youths and sports, the Sangye Ngedup led People’s Democratic Party (PDP) formalize its youthwing called Young Democrats.

Two days after the workshop, organized to attract the youths into unfolding political changes in the country, some two dozen youths announced their allegiance to PDP on July 15 and formation of the YD temporarily led by Kuenga Lhendup and Karma Choki Dorji.

But most youths dragged into the workshop had expressed their grave ignorance to the changing politics or unwillingness to join politics. PDP hopes to deploy these youths to divert votes in coming first general elections with operational cost borne by the party.  

It was youths who first announced their intention of forming a political party but were discouraged to do so by parents and the politicians. Now they are pushed to work under the present rulers.

PDP grabbed the opportunity to attract the youths as Bhutan People’s United Party (BPUP) and All People’s Party (APP), go into tussle and unity drive. Bhutan News Service
