AIIMS and health ministry agree on medical college (Education)
Thimphu, January 17: Ministry of Health and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) agreed on establishing first medical college in Bhutan by February 2011 with funding by India.
A Bhutanese delegation led by health secretary Dr. Gado Tshering held consultation with the experts from AIIMS on technical requirements for the college – human resource and curriculum.
The proposed college will have 350-bedded hospital. Ministry will work out on curriculum development in consultation with experts to ensure that it meets the international standards. The proposed college will also have the SAARC Telemedicine facilities.
Bhutan has shortage of health workers and many senior medical professionals are hired from India or Burma. Bhutan News Service
