SSB shot one, arrests rights activists

Kakarvitta, May 30: Sha Bahadur Dewan of Sanishcare Morang camp died from the Sasastra Suraksha Bal (SSB) firing at the Mechi Bridge and some hundreds have sustained serious injuries at random bullet firings on Tuesday.

Dewan died on the way to BP Koirala Memorial Hospital, Dharan.

Meanwhile, Indian authories have detained Narad Adhikari, general secretary of Druk National Congress.

Adhikari, who was in India for garnering support to the ‘Long March’ move is also working as the president of the Bhutan Chapter of Global Human Rights Defense.

Nirmala, sister of Adhikari, informed the BNS over telephone that her brother’s whereabouts is still unknown. “He used to contact the family members hourly but its not been known where he is kept as he is out of contact”, Nirmala said. Bhutan News Service
