PDP complains EC against PDP
Thimphu, October 27: Two weeks later Chukha administration fired two Tshogpas in Phuentsholing for attending the political meet of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as per complaints filed by Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT), PDP has submitted nine specific complaints to the Election Commission against DPT.
The PDP complaints include ‘acts of coercion, deception, illegal fund collection, bribery, involvement of government officials and religious personalities in party politics, use of government resources, false statements, sedition, and unsubstantiated accusations in public meetings’ by the DPT in various districts.
A statement by the party said despite several complaints from the party cadres across the country against DPT, it has filed some evidential incidents only.
The party said the ‘unlawful activities’ of the DPT are not in adherence to the draft constitution, the Election Bill, Political Parties Rules, Religious Organizations Act, Public and Civil Service Rules and the Bhutan Penal Code.
“We believed and continue to believe that the ECB is the appropriate authority to uncover and take action on unlawful electoral practices,” the party statement reads.
The party further said, ‘DPT had made accusations against the PDP to the ECB, in the media, and in statements during their familiarization tours, and had caused serious damage to the reputation of the party in the eyes of the public and that its restraint had been widely misinterpreted as guilt’.
PDP said it can no longer remain silent about the illegal activities of the DPT. Bhutan News Service
