BPP says resettlement split Bhutanese community in exile

Kathmandu, November 26: Bhutan People’s Party (BPP) said the offer of the third country resettlement was part of the larger conspiracy to support the autocracy of the Bhutanese regime and against the democratic struggle of Bhutan.

In a statement on Monday, BPP president Bala Ram Poudel said lack of transparency in the activities of the UNHCR with regard to the resettlement has split the Bhutanese community in exile who have been living a distressing life in search for justice and equality.

However, the party said it neither supports the process nor protests but it has asked the exiled Bhutanese to understand that third country settlement is meant to make them slavers.

The party has also asked the UNHCR to distribute the identity cards to exiled Bhutanese which the UNHCR said it would do after completion of the census exercise.

The census exercise was carried out in all camps early this year. Yet the identity cards have not been distributed.

Poudel also informed that a delegation of Indian MPs would visit Bhutanese community in exile and Bhutan soon to work out for dignified repatriation to homeland.

A recent meeting in New Delhi attended by various left parties in India had asked Indian government to extend possible support for repatriation of the exiled Bhutanese. Bhutan News Service
