ECB to introduce biometric system for voting

March 5, 2010: The country failed to hold local elections in last two years against the government commitments but the Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) is on the job to improve its working strategies for election system.

The Commission is set to introduce biometric system which will capture the information of a voter through a thumb impression.

The commission is hopeful that the service will be used during the local government elections, which is not yet fixed. But the commission expect to use it in full swing during parliamentary elections likely to be in 2013.

The biometric system will capture a voter’s information through thumb prints, which will be added in the electoral roll. On the poll day, one just has to walk into the polling booth and press the device. This will reduce the work of preparing a voter’ list and then searching whole sheet to find a voter’s name. The system minimizes frauds as well.

  1. Excellant idea if it is made to work well by its own terms. EVM had reversed the results in favour of the non/low expecting Party. Good appearances often possess more than one side to consider.
