PDP starts revival campaign

January 16, 2009: The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) that received shocking votes in the first parliamentary elections of the country in 2008 has now renewed its efforts for revival of its presence in all districts.

The party since the elections has almost faded out with only countable number of its members renewing membership in the span of last two years. All district contacts have been erased and presence at the local level has reached almost to zero. The ruling party Druk Phuensum Tshogpa also has the similar fate.

The revival of the party is important at the advent of the next parliamentary elections in early 2013. If not a third party come to the surface by then, only two legally registered party of the country will have the same play ground like in 2008.

The experiences of the first elections have taught lessons to the PDP honchos. Not to let the history repeated, the new president of the party Tshering Tobgey has started his tour to district, beginning Samtse, the most heavily populated district.

Tobgey is currently in Samtse reorganizing the party and injecting interest to new enthusiasts to build up political career. The party leaders started revival campaign early, to ensure a good homework is done for a better result. Tobgey is traveling every villages talking to people.

  1. I personally feel PDP should now move forward. The government led by Jigme Thinley has done nothing to redress people’s issues, no jobs, no increase in household income, no reduction in foreign dependence and nothing to help unemployed people. It is wrong echologically to dance to Indian tunes to construct mega water projects. It will destroy fragile echo system in the country and will lead to further natural degradation leading to more floods, earth quakes and other natural disasters. It is time that we stop all mega projects in Bhutan. We do not need them and for India’s interest we cannot put our country’s fragile mountain and river system and the wild lives in it in great jeopardy. Stop this once and for all. PDP donot be afraid. Come forward and save Bhutan.

  2. I m also the supporter of PDP. I liked the way sangay Nidup campaigned and promised to bring the changes in Bhutan. Yes, PDP should gear up and revive the party to come to power in the next general election. I guessed, that there was some foul play in the 2008 election against the PDP, which brought the DPT into land slide victory.
I wish to see Sangay Nidup once again as the Party President so that he can lead the next govt. The campaign pledge of Mr. Sangay was promising and solid . His party wanted to bring swiping reforms in the south, he was willing to discuss the repatriation issue and the lifting of NOC and assured equal opportunity in employment and education for the Lhotshampa.
    Thanks

I wish to see new party that brings sweeping reforms in the country including the issue of repatriation and lifting up of illegitimate charges against the Bhutanese populace holding to different ideologies but aiming to contribute to the unity, peace and well being of every Bhutanese. We should bid farewell to the supporters of Indian corruption to the Bhutanese people and system …

  5. I am not sure how my article was bifurcated by Sangrilaman and he pasted the same thing almost twice. Or else his idea and mine coincidently matching?
