First death of resettled Bhutanese
South Dakota, January 30: Bishnu Maya Adhikari, 45, suffering from illness related to neurosis, expired on January 22.
Adhikari’s family was resettled in Denver, Colorado from Timai camp on August 5, 2008. He had a illness of being faint frequently since for a long time. According to the family she became faint and was rushed to Rose Medical Centre where she passed away. Doctors say she had problem in brain. She was the mother of five sons.
According to Shiva Bhattarai, a resettled Bhutanese from Beldangi camno, post-death rituals for Adhikari is underway. The rituals are being done for 13 days according to the Hindu culture.
Family said they paid US$1,000 to burn the dead body in electronic machine. Social organization in Colorado supported financially for last rites.
Job holder Bhutanese have agreed to contribute US$20 and non-job holders would contribute US$10 each for Adhikari family. A good number of Bhutanese and Nepalese joined the funeral rites procession. Bhutan News Service
