Jacksonville (Florida), July 27: Tika Adhikari, 65, father of Hari Lal Adhikari, who was shot and killed, confirmed that his son was gunned-down during an apparent robbery Sunday night at the Stonemont Village Apartments on Jacksonville’s Southside.
He was robbed of his wallet and a cell phone by a gunman who shot him at point blank range and then walked off.
An American media has written that the victim is at least the 19th immigrant slain in Jacksonville in the past five years where most of the killings have occurred during robberies.
The Jacksonville.com uploaded the update on Adhikari shooting at 1:00 pm local time.
The website quoted Karen Croke, a staff at World Relief refugee resettlement agency, which brought Adhikari and his family to Jacksonville five months ago, as saying that it was disheartening to see someone escape from horrendous living conditions, only to meet with such violence in his new home.
According to this portal, Adhikari was shot in the parking lot of the complex and received a gun at his chest before he shouted for help.
The victim was working at a nearby Wal-Mart for about two weeks and was attending Florida Community College at Jacksonville to learn English.
His family had relied on him for financial support and to help them settle in Jacksonville, his distraught father said through a translator wrote the Jacksonville.com.

It is really disheartening to hear this horrifying news, for a moment I could not think anything. I pray that the departed soul rests with peace in heaven Let the Almighty grant courage to bear this irrepariable loss to the bereaved family. At last, I wish that the culprit behind the brutal murder be soon uder the law.

Let us join our hands to condemn the barbaric act. Had the person been rich enough it would have made some logic about the big robbery but the very boy just started working some 15 days earlier. He might not have received his first pay checks also. I personally think that the purpose of this killing is to make the people shock and make them scare. This may be a horrifying act. Whatever is the purpose, killing is end of life and it is the biggest crime. The criminal must be brought to justice and the bereaved family must be compensated.
The resettlement agencies must identify the safer place and resettle the refugee flocks in those areas. We heard that the murdered area is a crime prone zone. People have migrated here at USA with two purposes: first is the security (economic and social) and second is better future. But when the first one is nabbed in the bud, people won’t meet their desire to aspiration.
There are a few things we need to do when we are at the new world. They may sound funny, but they can be helpful. Mind your structure (look), language and time. I’ve seen some incidents when our younger generations are given the choice of exposure; they took full advantages and invited unnecessary problems. Our people wanted to be smart by speaking our languages at many public places like buses, shopping complexes, etc. and draw other attention. But we must remember that there are always bad people along the good people.
So it has become like saying ‘100 friends are too few and 1 enemy is too many’.
The news is very sad for all the refugees who had newly migrated from eastern world.we all the Bhutanese in pittsburgh are worried and painful to hear the sad news of Mr.Adhikari”s unexpected gun shot by unidentified person.IT is unbelevable and unimaginable for us now.We all the families in pittsburgh are praying to the almighty god for the eternal peace for the departed soul.have the god blessing to the remaning families not to be the victim of such activities again.we all are very worried and helpful in this situtation .

I am extremely shocked to hear about the sudden death of my dear classmate, Hari Lal. He was a warm and gracious person who was both honest when needed and sincere in his affections towards others. He is one person who will be missed not just by his family but by all those who knew him.

Dear adhikari family,
we are extremely shocked to read and know the incident.It is totally unfair and cause of unsecurity.It has broken the heart of all Bhutanese people either in overseas or in Nepal or even in Bhutan.
