Milk demand falls in Gelephu

Gelephu, June 04 2009: Continued fall in demand for milk in southern border town Gelephu has hindered the earning of the local farmers. 

According to the milk traders, daily demand for milk is as low as 200 liters per day while production crosses well over 300 liters a day. 

The local milk is neither transported to Indian towns for sales not to other cities within the country. The local authorities have made less effort in searching new markets for Bhutanese farmers. 

Gelephu is the major business hub in the country bordering India.
