New building for BBS TV

Thimphu, June 03, 2009: The state-owned Bhutan Broadcasting Services (BBS) Corporation has now shifted its television unit to a new building in Thimphu constructed at the cost of Nu 194 million.

With new building inaugurated Tuesday, BBS management hopes to enhance the quality of its content and transmission.

“We’d save a lot of time,” BBS managing director Pema Choden said, adding, “We’ll now be able to feed our coverage directly to a network, instead of reporters having to rush to hand in manual tapes and manage the line-up.”

The three-storied building built in four years’ time is equipped with latest technology worth Nu 91 million. Construction is being funded by government of India.

Princess Ashi Chimi Yangzom Wangchuck and the Indian Ambassador to Bhutan Pavan K Varma attended the inauguration ceremony.

This is the biggest expansion of BBS TV since it started telecasting a decade ago with one-hour evening program accessible only in the capital city.

The telecast studio of the television will start its operation about a month later so as to let the technicians get used to with new facilities.

  1. Written in my heart.

    I’ve gone
    near the sound
    of an open
    aspect waiting
    for a blackbird,
    and now,
    while the north
    wind appears
    with a delicate
    care, I follow
    the sun….
