Bhutan seeks India’s support to build toilets

Thimphu, May 24, 2009: Bhutan, which rests heavily on India for development, has now sought from this largest democracy to build toilets in the capital city.

The government invited the Indian NGOs in the field of sanitation Sulabh International to a five-day sanitation symposium ended Saturday in Thimphu seeking support for constructing toilet complexes in the country.

The government expects that toilet complexes will help streamline sanitation system in capital and other parts of the country.

Chief of the NGO Bindeshwar Pathak attended the symposium to discuss with senior government officials for launching an intensive sanitation campaign. The NGO has already built one such toiled in Thimphu.

Speaking at the symposium Education Minister Thakur Singh Powdyel said government invited the NGO to create awareness among students and people about the importance of sanitation and expressed hope to utilize the expertise of Sulabh for country’s benifit.

  1. Bhutan still is a part of Indian sovergenity it seems as dependence on india clearly shows that Bhutan lacks its own manpower to the extend of even constructing toilets. It is very samefool for the people of bhutan who think that they are citizen of a sovergin country. This my message is to the people of Bhutan that you are loosing your identity as bhutanese citizen and rather gaining the fame of Indias colonial citizen. Bhutan till today don’t have a single Univercity of its own to impliment its own educational value and to teach about her heritage. People in Bhutan should now look into their ownself and to the people of India. Freedom in bhutan han nothing to do with actula freedom of people. Freedom is given in papers and pages, that will not fulfill the actual gound need of the pople as still in bhutna, human right voilation is continuous. Specially the southern bhutanese are depriving their basic right, they are dominated by the people of northern bhutan in all aspects of their socila life and even they are not secure to get jobs after being qualified, as job resevation has been done to some particular ethenical groupe of people particularly (Nalompas) and other norther groups. We are sorry for the people of bhutan that your eyes have been covered by the wanchuck dinesty, so that their dinesty would flurish with the blood and sweat of some particular group of poeple living in the same country.
Bhutan should not noly get inspiration of indian manpower and mentality but should take example of indian democracy. See the divercity in india, hunderds of ethenica groupe of people, following some hundred of religions, diverse cultural heitage, thousand of languages and still there is unity in indian, it is progressing despite the fact india supports the larges slums in the world. My few words to the people of bhutan is that you should look towards india not for manpower and finincal help but should take examle of india on all aspects of social, democratic, political, religious, growth and manpower development and should take indian as a role modle atleat in the gound of ‘unity in divercity’
and can adope any europian country as a modle of development as bhutan has great potentality in turism sector and hydro-electricity project…………..

  2. Toilet is One
What Bhutan will need is similar to Doma infected saliva to prevent from going in the corner of the walls of all offices in Thimphu. This has to start from those smelly Dashos who knows nothing more than chewing Doma.

If the RGOB teaches people what do after chewing doma, that may be more appropriate to Bhutan to improve your hygiene in the international arena along with toilet (remember one article by a western tourist in Kuensel about stinking toilets). The budget does not have to come from India, simply close the office of Gross National Happiness and divert the money. Here the concept is reality vs propaganda dream, you may be better off with the later.
The other things, after the toilet, please invest on tissue papers and washing and drying hands in the toilet. This should be done on voluntary basis from all the so called master,s degree holders from overseas where they have learned in cleaning and housekeeping job in Overseas. While the spouse pretended to study, the wife or husband has done the cleaning job continuously. This is very good dignity of labor that is learned from West. Just one more step, please take the courage to do in Bhutan, this way you can create jobs to others and educate others that blue color job has the dignity, Will you those Dasho Amas???
I am not sure if they will use their education back in Bhutan but definitely they will use the skills of cleaning because they have learned this while they were paid.

Congratulations Bhutan for looking into toilets. Next time we visit Thimphu, hope there is no more night soil around the town.
This practical approach taken by new Minister is need of the hour than shooting arrows to kill the innocents in the field mena charu chuu??
