January 15, 2009: The Citizens’ Initiatives for Centenary and Coronation Celebrations has awarded Kuensel’s chief reporter, Kencho Wangdi, with “Best Election Reports”. 

The award is given for his excellent coverage on country’s first general elections held in 2008. The award carries a cash purse of Nu 25,000. 

Bhutan Time’s Mitra Raj secured second award and Bhutan Observer’s Sonam Pelden stood for third. A panel of three national editors and three independent writers were entrusted to evaluate stories covered during the elections.
