New phase of Light Drukyul project
Thimphu, March 25, 2009: In an effort to spread the ‘Light Drukyul’ project, Ministry of Education has started a five day orientation program at the department of youth and sports (DYS), in the capital on Monday.
The project has been initiated to overcome teacher shortage faced by schools, especially in rural areas. In its first phase, the project recruited 241 contract teachers.
In this second phase, they project will recruit 126 teachers comprising 7 retired teachers, 61 national graduates and 58 from shedras and dratshangs. During the five-day orientation the teachers will be briefed on knowledge and skills to conduct classes, ways to deal and give guidance to students.
These teachers will be employed for a period of two years on a contract basis and will receive a consolidated salary of Nu 10,000.
