Local government elections later this year (Politics)
Thimphu, May 31: Election Commission of Bhutan expects to hold the election to local governments by the end of this year.
The preparations for the elections will begin forth parliament endorses the Election Bill, which is currently under discussion.
The delineation and preparing of electoral rolls will begin soon. According to draft constitution, the local body will not have representative of the political parties.
This is opposite to general practice in all democracies where local bodies consist of representatives elected through political parties and carry out development activities according to the strategies formulated by ruling party.
Bhutan will, however, elect local government which will look after administrative decision and development administration affairs.
The polls will elect Gup, Mangmi and Gewog Tshogpas in first phase and Thrompon, Dzongkhag Tshogdu Thromde and Yenla Thromde and Thromde Tshogdes in the second. Bhutan News Service
