Bhutan's Gelephu goes higher (REPRODUCTION)
Gelephu, June 27: Gelephu Higher Secondary School became the first school to win the inaugural U-19 school cricket tournament held in Sarpang when they beat arch-rivals Gelephu Lower Secondary School by 107 runs in the final. It was the mountain nation's first ever national schools tournament.
The Dungpa (Governor) of Gelephu was Chief Guest and he was accompanied by the District Education Officer and officials from the Bhutan-India Friendship Association.
"From a bare foot to the cricket shoes, Sarpang schools are ready for big tournament in near future," said the Dungpa.
In July the Bhutan Cricket Council will hold an international tournament, The Monarchy Trophy, with teams from Assam and Jaipur joining those from Thimphu adnd Gelephu.
