A school for textile and fashion
Thimphu, June 08, 2009: Royal family has initiated construction of a textile school in the country within the next five years, which will also incorporate yarn dyeing and modern fashion and design besides traditional weaving.
The Royal Textile Academy will occupy 4.5 acres of land in Chubachu. Queen Mother Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuck, who is chairperson of board of trustees of the school, laid foundation stone of the building.
She, on the occasion, expressed hope that the academy would help increase international recognition of Bhutanese textiles.
She said the academy aims at offering professional training in weaving, design and production, along with collection, conservation important artifacts.
Funded by Dr Frederik Paulsen of Switzerland, at Nu 500m, construction of the school building will start in August. India has also extended Nu 30m support for its construction.
