Stabber found to be schizophrenic
The 21-year old man, who was recently detained for allegedly striking a minor girl with a knife, has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, a mental disorder, by a psychiatrist in Mongar referral hospital.
Schizophrenia is a mental disorder, characterised by disintegration of thought process and of emotional responsiveness, accompanied by hallucinations, paranoia, disorganised speech and thinking.
The report from the psychiatrist was submitted to Trashigang police yesterday. The medical report states that the man should undergo treatment for five years, said police officials.
The suspect was brought back to the detention centre on the same day. “We’ve also asked his parents to get his medications,” police said. “They’re supposed to start treatment from today.”
