Long March blocked in the Mechi Bridge
Kathmandu, May 28: The Sasastra Suraksha Bal (SSB) of India has blocked some thousands of exiled Bhutanese, who were heading on a "Long March" towards Bhutan, on the middle of the Mechi Bridge on Monday.
The Long March is taking place at the call of National Front for Democracy (NFD-Bhutan).
Gopal Gurung, spokesperson of Bhutan Peoples’ Party (BPP) informed the BNS from the site that agitators have staged indefinite sit-in on the bridge since the SSB blocked from moving ahead.
Meanwhile, it is reportedly learnt that the Indian security forces have even barred some Indian political and rights activists at Panitanki to come to the Bridge to extend their support and solidarity.
Gurung, however, said that SSB hasn’t used physical strength yet. “People are demonstrating in the middle of the Bridge urging the SSB to let use its soil to enter Bhutan”, Gurung added. Bhutan News Service
