Gup sentenced on corruption charges
Thimphu, July 12: The Bumthang district court has convicted a former village headman of Tang on charges of embezzlement and reporting false information on construction materials for the never-built Tang Bridge and sentenced one and half year jail term.
Three others associated with the corruption have been sentenced to three months jail term.
Gup Pema Thinley, 33, was imprisoned for one year on corruption charges and another six months for deceiving authorities with fake details. The villagers build the Tang Bridge in 2002 with the balance money of Nu 250,000 allocated for a school renovation.
The bridge serves 27 households of Keezom, Pralang and Tezur villages. The ministry had additional allocated Nu 400,000 to the gup for the construction. Bhutan News Service
